Practical Visionaries

Some of the practical visionaries who teach courses at Ecoversity

Alfonz Viszolay
Alfonz Viszolay
Engineer, Inventor
Alfonz Viszolay is a brilliant Hungarian-born engineer and inventor who has done many environmental remediation projects for large corporations. He and his crew of bright and enterprising kids will present a biofuel-producing living algae machine at Ecoversity on Saturday April 26 for Earthday.
Watch video and slideshows of the installation and demonstration of Viszolay's Algae Machine.

Jay Bonner Jay Bonner
Jay Bonner has lectured widely on the subjects of geometric art and design, the traditional construction methods used in producing geometric patterns, self similarity within the tradition of proportional geometric design, and on his own work as an ornamentalist. He has given lectures and design seminars at such institutions as Duke University, the Rhode Island School of Design, the University of Washington in Seattle, the University of Granada, Spain, the University of San Francisco, the Lorentz Center at Leiden University in the Netherlands, and at the Pcs-Ars GEometrica 2008 conference in Pcs City, Hungary. Jay Bonner is a resident of Santa Fe. (read more on Jay and the course here)

Michael Baron Michael Baron
Michael Baron investigates geometric ideas and their intrinsic governing principles that are found to underlie the natural world. Over the years he has offered geometry programs to elementary school children, teachers of mathematics, and scientists of the Los Alamos National Laboratories. His interest in architecture and the possibility of investing proportional principles in design, led him to construct dozens of homes as well as participating in unique architectural projects; The Lindisfarne Chapel dome, The Tent of Meeting and the Tibetan Stupas of Peace and Enlightenment. Michael Baron is a resident of Santa Fe. (read more on Michael and the course here)

Laurence Malone Laurence Malone
A cyclist for 40 years, Laurence Malone is a six-time US National Champion bike racer and former coach of the national team. A contributor to books, films and magazines, he has served as a consultant in urban planning and bicycle litigation as well as conducts seminars and alternative transport programs. His research and studies take a hard look at the factors that have marginalized cycling and allowed the automobile infrastructure to dominate the political and environmental landscape. Featured in the first UN Conference on New and Renewable Energy Resources, he has since addressed the UNESCO sponsored Creative Cities Summit at Santa Fe Design Week in late 2006. His talk concerned the personal, local and global repercussions of bicycling in the context of economic and environmental sustainability. Laurence has a B.A. in History from University of California-Santa Cruz. (read more on Laurence and the course here)
